Ugly Child

Spenard is about neglected neighborhoods, seedy pasts, but it is also a deeply American experiment that actually seems to be working without being fashionable. An unpopular ugly child who has grown to be a local folk hero.

It's definitely one of the few neighborhoods which can truly be called diverse. Having grown up within her/his streets, it's disheartening how certain projects seem to erase all evidence of the past.
There are also some 'improvement' projects which try to force Spenard into something it's not. Take those quaint sesame street lamps that are up and down Spenard, WTF? Some of them are right under the 40 foot street lights. What sort of ambiance are they supposed to add? Is it that at any moment they will somehow beckon the spirit of James Stewart to start tap dancing? Perhaps Spenard will be graced by Big Bird and Oscar. They suck and whoever is making the selections needs to be stopped!
